ODU Partners with ESPN Radio 94.1 to Begin Throwback Thursday Monarch Rewinds

NORFOLK, Va. – Beginning on May 14 and for the next several months, Monarch Nation will have the chance to relive great games of the past, as Old Dominion and ESPN Radio 94.1 have partnered together for Throwback Thursday Monarch Rewinds.

“I’ve been here at the station for 21 of the 27-year partnership with ODU Sports. We are excited to bring back some nostalgic games to re-air for ODU fans and alumni to reminisce,” said Keith Barton, Vice President and General Manager of Max Media of Hampton Roads. “We can’t wait to get back to live sports and events here in Hampton Roads, but for the short term, I hope everyone enjoys some ODU Sports Radio!”

The re-aired games begin on Thursday at 7 p.m., as ESPN Radio 94.1 will play the first ODU football game against Chowan that was played on Sept. 5, 2009.

“It was fun going back into the archives and digging up some of the greatest moments in ODU Athletics,” ODU Director of Broadcasting Ted Alexander said. “Not only to relive the games but also the feel of the game and the crowd all at the same time. We hope you enjoy it.

ODU play by play announcer Ted Alexander and football color analyst Andy Mashaw are on the call of the first ODU football contest in 69 years. The Monarchs opened the 2009 campaign against Division II opponent, Chowan and defeated the Hawks, 36-21. Marquel Thomas scored the first ODU touchdown on a 50-yard pass from Thomas DeMarco, and Jamar Parham scored twice to lead the Monarchs to the win.
